* Lembro-me de que existia, no meu jardim de infância, uma árvore que dava joaninhas. Enterrava a mão bem no fundo, no meio das folhas, e ela vinha coberta delas. Foi esta árvore, hoje arbusto, que me mostrou pela primeira vez que existiam diferentes estações do ano. Duas, para ser mais preciso… sendo que eu sempre preferi a estação-em-que-há-joaninhas.

Translation: work with a long title * | * I can remember, from kindergarten, a tree that produced ladybirds. While searching amongst the leaves, the little bugs would completely cover my small hands. It was this tree, nowadays a shrub, that taught me everything I knew about seasons… and still, today, I favor the-season-of-ladybirds.

This piece was commissioned by Associação Portuguesa de Flautas, composed at the Visby International Centre for Composers and premiered by Performa Ensemble, who also did the recording above. The electroacoustic diffusion is made through a custom built multi-directional loudspeaker, representing the shrub mentioned in the title, that was based on the SLOrk Speaker. An early stage of the building process can be seen on the ‘título longo*’ thumbnail on the left of this post.
